Niya Rivera is an internationally collected artist specializing in large scale abstract concepts. Her works are vibrant, expressive and distinctive. Rivera uses art to display her vulnerable thoughts and experiences. Storytelling is a powerful thread in her artistic practice. She finds freedom in her work as well as purpose. At the age of 4 her parents noticed her artistic abilities and nurtured that gift.
Niya recalls spending a summer with her grandmother who introduced her to pastels, and also painting with acrylics and watercolors. It wasn’t until her grandmother’s passing of cancer in 2014 that Rivera made a vow to keep the artistic legacy going. She created an Art and Design company named Princy&Child in honor of her late grandmother Princellar Allen Crews. And the nickname “WildChild” given to her by Princellar. Rivera spent the majority of her childhood abroad. She pulls inspiration from her travels around the world and life experiences. Rivera is an active philanthropist and regularly donates to local and national charities, especially cancer related organizations.
Niya says, “While being an artist is a difficult path between my inner dreamer and critic, I've grown to love the process. Because this journey [is one] few will ever dare to explore, nor have the courage to be so vulnerable. Art has taught me patience, persistence and to be present. It’s taught me about the world.” At her core, Niya is a protector, a resilient woman, and a creative being. Her art lives on and off the canvas via set designs, make-up artistry, modeling campaigns, charity events, and the characters she embodies onstage. She hopes to inspire her viewers to never give up, to be confident, and to never take life for granted.
Her work has been shown as part of exhibitions in Las Vegas Mayor’s Gallery, City Hall Downtown, Red Rock Country Club, and other locations. Niya has held residences at Ascaya Luxury homes, Dragon Ridge Country Club, West Elm in The District and this year she will be one of the first artist’s to hold a combined residency-exhibition at Spckrft Studios.
